The Low-Definition Design Methodology

LO-DEF helps move us away from the rushed, forced definition of a Photoshop or Sketch file. It holds us back from the single-sized, unrealistically-worded pretence of a high-fidelity, abstracted image.

Starting with typographic restrictions and automated best practice, and a modular scale approach to sizing, we can quickly adapt our layouts mobile-first and content-out.

Lo-Def revolves around two core principles: unified rhythm and contextual layout.

Unified rhythm

Harmonious rhythm, vertically and horizontally. Typography and layout both sharing the same proportional system.

Contextual layout

Intelligent layout. Minimal best practice spacing makes way for further white space potential, when screen size allows it.
